Mushrooms, gardens & creative projects in coastal France.
29 - Finistère
We are Karolis (31, originally from Lithuania) and Chloé (25, from this region of Brittany), a young international couple bringing ancestral family land back to life. We live on 2 hectares in coastal Brittany, a few kilometers from the sea, surrounded by fields and peaceful countryside.
Chloé’s grandfather grew up in this very house, and now we are restoring both the land and buildings step by step. We live here mostly as a couple, though during busy summer months we host occasional Airbnb guests, and Chloé’s family often comes to visit.
We share our home with our dog Smoofy and our cat Alyah.
Our core project is building a sustainable farm focused on mushroom cultivation and regenerative vegetable growing, while creating a welcoming place for international exchange, creativity and simple rural living.
We started our mushroom farm last summer and are currently building a dedicated growing space inside our garage. We cultivate shiitake, oyster mushrooms, lion’s mane and soon button mushrooms, and have begun inoculating outdoor logs for future harvests.
Volunteers are very welcome to learn about mushroom cultivation, but most volunteering tasks will focus on:
• Gardening (trying on no-dig & regenerative techniques)
• Planting, weeding, mulching
• Soil improvement
• Small building and land projects
Our vegetable garden is mainly for self-sufficiency, with some produce used in our market dishes. During summer we sell mushrooms at weekly local markets where we cook them street-food style. Volunteers are welcome to join — markets are lively and fun — though transport can be limited unless you have your own car or are happy to cycle.
Future plans include building a chicken coop and expanding regenerative systems.
We host maximum 2 volunteers at a time.
• Each volunteer has a private bedroom
• Shared bathroom with us
• Shared kitchen
• Fast internet connection
• Large 3‑floor house with plenty of space
Later in the summer, we plan to move into the smaller house, making the main house even quieter for volunteers then possibly expanding amount of volunteers!
Food:
• Mostly vegetarian
• Occasionally local seafood or organic meat
• Breakfast is independent
• Lunch is usually shared
• Dinner varies depending on schedule
• We rotate cooking and love learning new recipes — maybe we’ll build a shared recipe book together!
We don’t drink alcohol regularly and prefer volunteers who are comfortable with a calm lifestyle. An occasional glass of wine or beer is fine.
We both love:
• Cooking
• Movies & games
• Bonfire evenings
• Surfing (you can join Karolis!)
• Exploring nature
We are a calm household — not into partying — and we value peaceful evenings, especially during busy summer months.
We provide bicycles and there are beautiful cycling and walking routes nearby. The sea is only a few kilometers away. Public transport exists but is limited, so a car can be helpful (but not necessary). You can also borrow our surfboards.
Languages spoken at home: mostly English, while we all learn French together.

I enjoyed my stay a lot! Karolis and Chloé are very nice people. They gave me clear instructions workwise and all the tasks, including work in the garden, on the field but also cooking for a shared meal were distributed fairly. At the same time I had a lot of freedom, there was no pressure and also no hierarchy. I could include my own ideas and decide how I want to structure my tasks. In the afternoons I had a lot of time to explore the surroundings, and they even took me surfing.
Thank you so much:)
