Ferme de production de houblon dans les Flandres

Je suis dans le houblon depuis 2014, j'ai monté mon exploitation de production de houblon et j'y produis cette fleur pour les brasseries artisanales, indépendantes et locales.
L'atelier houblon se situe à Hazebrouck, sur la ferme familialle partagée avec ma soeur (La Ferme des Mions) qui produit du blé, de la farine, des pâtes artisanales et biologiques, et mon père, ancien agriculteur désormais apiculteur !
Chaque année au printemps (Avril-Mai-Juin) et au moment de la récolte (Septembre), on donne la possibilité à quelques personnes de s'immerger dans le monde merveilleux de "l'Or vert des Flandres".
Outre les activités autour du houblon à la ferme, la région offre des opportunités intéressantes de ballades à pied, à cheval, à vélo, dans les Monts de Flandres, dans les brasseries artisanales et les musées de Cassel et d'Hazebrouck.
Printemps, Avril-Mai-Juin:
- On pose les 20000 fils tuteurs en haut de la structure, sur une nacelle (il ne faut pas avoir le vertige !)
- On enfonce chaque fil dans le sol
- On enroule délicatement les lianes de houblon autour du fil, et on passe au suivant !
- Plantation du houblon
- Bouturage, rempotage
- Désherbage à la houe et manuel
Récolte (Septembre)
Matin : La journée du houblonnier commence à 9h par la récolte des lianes, les lianes de 6 m sont tirées dans une remorque pour être ramenées à la ferme.
Midi : une pause déjeuner à la ferme le midi, avec les produits de la ferme (pâtes artisanales, légumes) et locaux.
Après-midi: Les lianes sont triées pour en récupérer les cônes qui seront séchés, le WWOOFeur pourra vérifier la qualité du tri et veiller au bon séchage avec la présence d'un responsable de production.
Fin de journée : la journée termine par une bonne bière artisanale bien fraîche !

La récolte se faisant une journée sur deux, le reste du temps est consacré à l'entretien du matériel (Nettoyage des surfaces en contact avec le houblon, vérification du stock de consommables) et au conditionnement (mise en balle et sachets).
Bien-sûr, chaque journée est différente et il est fortement recommandé d'y aménager des temps de ballade, à pied, en vélo, de pause...

The hop year start with training and stringing the hops with coir wire in april, and it ends with the hop harvest in september, we taste beers in between !

If you want to discover hop's cultivation and more broadly how local agriculture works, it's the place to be. Edouard knows a lot about the past of his farm and tries to anticipate the future. Has a person, he his open minded, fun and generous. I really appreciated that he is both honest about what he expect from you and at the same time attentive to the expectation of the woofeur. I hope I will have the opportunity to discover the hop's harvest !

Si l'occasion s'offre à vous de faire un saut à la ferme d'Edouard ne ratez pas cette opportunité! Même hors-saison x)! J'y ai passé moins d'une semaine et j'ai eu l'occasion de participer à plein d'autres tâches qui font vivre ce lieu on à préparé des commandes fait du rempotage et même un saut dans la jolie commune de Sainte-Marie-Cappel où quelques plans on été installé pour l'association qui gère le Festival International de la Bière Artisanale (Le FIBA pour ceux que ça intéresse à lieu fin septembre)
Il a fait super beau, les échanges avec Edouard était très intéressants, les repas très bons et la bière aussi et je ne dis pas juste ça parce que je veux y retourner! Promis x)

I had a really good time at the hop farm of Edouard. I especially liked the work in the greenhouse (mostly repoting small hop plants or bamboo) and in the hop fields. In the evening we shared some very nice beers with good conversations 😊 In the first week I was with another wwoofer, the second week I was the only wwoofer (you shouldn't mind spending some evenings on your own when choosing to come here).

I had a really fantastic time. Edouard is kind, generous, charismatic and has a beautiful family, who I was lucky to meet. The work itself was interesting and varied. I learned a lot about what it takes to run an agricultural business, and the farm was gorgeous. Walking through those hop fields, seeing flowers, hares, and fat bumblebees buzzing around was gorgeous! Sometimes the work was hard, but that's what I signed up for, and it felt good to be physically tired at the end of the day. Sharing a meal, stories and delicious beer, made with hops from the farm, at the end of each day was fantastic, as were the DJing and card games (Edouard has exceptional music taste and questionable card game tactics 😂). It was a really great week. And FUN! I was WWOOFing as a solo female and I always felt safe at this farm (another lovely female WWOOFer was there during part of my stay too). Also, my French is rubbish and Edouard was kind enough to speak English. Highly recommended. This is a pretty special place.

Edouards farm is absolutely gorgeous. I got the pleasure to stay with Seohyun for a few days and it was so nice. Except the part, that you definitly have to visit, if you´re interestet in hops/beer and a good one man company that works with passion, Edouard is a very warmly person. He will always have an ear for you, can cook very good and I think you will enjoy a beer with some good talks after work. Dont miss this! (and if you want to, ask him for playing some guitar, he is good :)
